Today is the birthday of former Indian cricket team coach Gary Kirsten. Former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has congratulated Kirsten on Twitter for her 53rd birthday on Twitter.
Yuvraj Singh has written an emotional message after the 2011 World Cup final win, posting a picture of him hugging Kirsten.
Yuvraj has written- ‘Happy birthday to you Gary Kirsten – Best coach I played under! An individual who knew how to build a rock-solid team and who knew how to get the best out of a player on the field. Hopefully you will be healthy and safe. Have a wonderful year!
The Indian team under Gary Kirsten had a great performance. India won the World Cup in 2011 after 28 years of his coaching. Under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Indian team defeated Sri Lanka in the final. Yuvraj Singh did very well in that tournament. Yuvraj scored 362 runs at an average of 90.50 and also took 15 wickets at an average of 25.13.
Apart from the 2011 World Cup victory, Gary Crurston also played an important strategic role in helping the Indian team reach the number one ranking in Tests in 2009. During this time, the Indian team showed a great game on home soil.
