ENGvNZ: Anderson one Test away from becoming the greatest English player, equals Cook’s record

The summer cricket season of England has started from today. It started with the Test series between hosts England and New Zealand. In the first Test being played at Lord’s, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has won the toss and decided to bat first. English pacer James Anderson equaled a big record as soon as he entered the match.

Most Test matches for England
This is 161 international Test matches for James Anderson, who made his 2003 debut. In this way he equaled Alastair Cook’s record for playing most matches for England. Cook, a left-handed batsman, played cricket for England from 2006 to 2018.

England’s greatest player
Interestingly, both the players are also the highest Test runs and highest Test wicket-takers for their country. Alastair Cook has scored about 12 and a half thousand runs while James Anderson has 614 Test wickets in his name. Anderson can also overtake Shivnarine Chanderpaul (164), Rahul Dravid (164) and Jock Kallis (166) in the list of most Test match-playing cricketers.

16 wickets away another record
On the bowling front, Anderson could become the second bowler in the world to take 400 Test wickets at home, 16 wickets away from him, taking 384 wickets in 89 Test matches so far. Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka has taken 493 wickets in 79 matches. Anil Kumble has taken 350 wickets in 63 matches and Stuart Broad has taken 334 wickets in 82 matches at home.

Important series for New Zealand
The second and last match of the series will be held in Birmingham from the 10th. For New Zealand, this series is considered important for the final match of the World Test Championship against India to be held this month.

Both teams are as follows
England: Rory Burns, Dominic Sibley, Jack Crowley, Joe Root (c), Daniel Lawrence, Ollie Pope, James Brakey (wk), Ollie Robinson, Stuart Broad, Mark Wood, James Anderson.
