Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar feels that Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson needs to curb his aggressive tendencies right from the start. He says shot selection is Samson’s biggest problem. The 26-year-old batsman made his debut for India in 2015 but has played only one ODI and 10 T20Is so far.
Gavaskar said in a chat, ‘The thing that has let him down is the shot selection. Even at the international level, he doesn’t play at the opening. Samson comes down to the second or third position and he wants to hit the first ball off the ground. this is impossible. It is absolutely impossible, even if you are in form. Samson failed with the bat on Tuesday after scoring four runs.
Gavaskar further said that Samson needs to give himself more time and he can only improve his temperament by working on his selection of shots. Samson scored a century in the first leg of IPL 2021.
Gavaskar said, “This is something they will have to focus on. I’ve always said that a lot of shot selection boils down to flair. So, his shot selection should be just as good to go ahead and become a regular player for India.
